Mudgeeraba State School is part of the Gold Coast City Council Active School Travel Program.  We were one of the first schools to pilot the program and are relaunching in 2021 with Cr. Glenn Tozer.

Notable achievements,

  • 2022 AST Parent Volunteer of the Year
  • 2023 AST VCAST winners
  • 2023 increasing AST by 24% within our community

We believe that Active School Travel,

  • promotes road safety among students and families
  • encourages an active healthy lifestyle
  • reduces congestion on Old Coach Road and Milky Way during peak times
  • fosters positive relationships between students, younger siblings and adults
  • develops an awareness of road safety and the impact upon our environment

Mudgeeraba families can participate by,

  • our initiative of Walking Wheeling Wednesday will operate from week 3 of term 1 where families can park at our local soccer club carparks and walk, cycle or scoot to school with staff
  • leave the car at home and walk to school
  • ride your bike or scooter to school making sure that students wear helmets
  • families can organise carpooling
  • use public transport with bus services and bus stops operating on Old Coach Road

Gold Coast City Council support us by,

  • Active School Travel Officer who meets and communicates regularly with school staff
  • financial support through various grants to upgrade facilities such as our bike cage
  • financial support to release staff per term to organise Active School Travel initiatives and programs
  • road safety signage to further enhance the Active School Travel message
  • coordinating between departments such as Main Roads and Council
  • coordinating between organisations such as Translink and the Ashmore Bicycle Safety Centre to provide free programs for our Year 4 and 5 students
  • school visitation by Zero the Hero
