Behaviour management

Positive behaviour support

The school commenced implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) in mid 2007, as a key strategy for achieving and maintaining a safe, supportive and disciplined learning environment for our students and staff. SWPBS principles are naturally aligned with our school's purpose and values, and the practices of SWPBS have enabled the school to evaluate and enhance existing programs and innovations, and to preserve a positive school culture in which positive relationships are built on mutual trust and respect. In 2015, SWPBS was re-branded as Positive Behaviour for Learning or PBL.

Positive school climate

Implementing SWPBS has been pivotal in maintaining a positive school culture in which relationships are built on mutual trust and respect. SWPBS has enhanced the learning and teaching climate of the school by creating a common language around social competency, for both students and staff. We employed SWPBS processes of team leadership and staff consensus to develop our school's four expectations, and aligning our school rules to these has helped students to understand what is expected of them and for staff to have more meaningful conversations with students about their behaviour.

We have created visual cues to remind students of our school's expectations. There are posters in all classrooms, murals in the assembly area and messages on our school's notice board.

Positive reinforcement

We celebrate our successes as a school through fortnightly assemblies where expectations are reiterated, awards for good behaviour are presented and a raffle draw of positive behaviour slips conducted with winning students having morning tea with the principal.

Mudgeeraba State School has a very proud history dating back to the late 19th century. The school has developed many strong traditions which have set a firm foundation for us to meet the challenges of an ever-changing educational and social context.
