Absences

Education (General Provisions Act) 2006 s.176 provides that each parent/carer of a child of compulsory school age must ensure their child attends school on every school day, for the educational program in which the child is enrolled.

Penalties may apply if a parent is unable to provide a reasonable excuse for irregular attendance.

Should a child be absent, parents are requested to notify the school by telephone on the day, by letter if absence is anticipated or by letter after the absence. All absences without explanation are unauthorised.
